Understanding Revelation 21:1 KJV: New Heaven and Earth Explained

📖 Revelation 21:1 (KJV)

“And I saw a new heaven and a new earth: for the first heaven and the first earth were passed away; and there was no more sea.”

🔡 Original Greek with Transliteration and Strong’s Concordance:

Καὶ εἶδον οὐρανὸν καινὸν καὶ γῆν καινήν· ὁ γὰρ πρῶτος οὐρανὸς καὶ ἡ πρώτη γῆ ἀπῆλθαν, καὶ ἡ θάλασσα οὐκ ἔστιν ἔτι.

✨ Deeper Insight:

  • “New Heaven and New Earth”: Echoing Isaiah 65:17, this speaks of a complete renewal, not merely a repair. The Greek word kainos implies something of a new quality, a redeemed and transformed creation.
  • “The First Passed Away”: The old order—tainted by sin, death, and sorrow—is completely done away with.
  • “No More Sea”: In ancient Jewish symbolism, the sea often represented chaos, danger, and separation. This may indicate that in the New Creation, nothing will threaten peace, and no more separation or chaos will exist.
