Deeper Insight & Meaning:

This verse teaches a spiritual law of giving and receiving—the way we give to others determines how we receive in return.

  1. “Give, and it shall be given unto you”
    • Giving is a principle of sowing and reaping.
    • What we give—whether kindness, generosity, forgiveness, or resources—will return to us.
  2. “Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over”
    • “Good measure” (Metron kalon) → A fair and generous portion.
    • “Pressed down” (Pepiesmenon) → Like packing grain tightly to make room for more.
    • “Shaken together” (Sesaleumenon) → To settle everything so that it holds more.
    • “Running over” (Hyperekchynnomenon) → So abundant that it overflows beyond the container.

Principle: When God blesses, He pours out more than enough!

  1. “Shall men give into your bosom”
    • “Bosom” (Kolpon) → Refers to the folds of a garment where people carried provisions.
    • This means God often uses people as instruments of blessing.
  2. “For with the same measure that ye mete withal it shall be measured to you again”
    • However we give, we will receive back in the same manner—whether generously or sparingly.

Principle: God uses our standard of giving as the standard for our blessings.

Practical Application:

✔️ Be generous in giving—whether money, time, or kindness.
✔️ Give with the right heart, trusting that God will provide abundantly.
✔️ Recognize that God blesses not only financially but in all areas of life.
✔️ Expect blessings to return in unexpected ways—through people, opportunities, and favor.

Cross-Reference Verses:

📖 Proverbs 11:25 (KJV)“The liberal soul shall be made fat: and he that watereth shall be watered also himself.”

📖 Malachi 3:10 (KJV)“Bring ye all the tithes into the storehouse… if I will not open you the windows of heaven, and pour you out a blessing, that there shall not be room enough to receive it.”

📖 2 Corinthians 9:6-7 (KJV)“He which soweth sparingly shall reap also sparingly; and he which soweth bountifully shall reap also bountifully. Every man according as he purposeth in his heart, so let him give; not grudgingly, or of necessity: for God loveth a cheerful giver.”

Conclusion:

Luke 6:38 reveals a powerful principle of generosity and blessing. God rewards those who give with a heart of faith and love, ensuring that what they give comes back to them in an overflowing measure. Giving is an act of faith, and through it, we position ourselves to receive the abundant blessings of God.
