Deeper Insight & Meaning:

This passage teaches the principle of honoring God with our wealth and the promise of abundant blessings in return.

  • Verse 9: “Honour the Lord with thy substance”
    • “Honor” (Kabbēd) → The word means to give weight, value, and respect.
    • “Substance” (Hōn) → Refers to wealth, material possessions, and resources.
    • This means giving God the first and best portion of our income and resources as an act of reverence and trust.
  • “With the firstfruits of all thine increase”
    • “Firstfruits” (Rēʾshīṯ) → The first and best portion of any harvest.
    • This reflects a priority of giving to God first before using anything for oneself.

Principle: Giving to God should be our first priority, not an afterthought.

  • Verse 10: “So shall thy barns be filled with plenty”
    • “Barns” (ʾĀsām) → Storage places for grains and harvests.
    • “Plenty” (Śāḇāʿ) → A state of fullness, satisfaction, and abundance.
    • Promise: God will ensure that our needs are more than supplied.
  • “Thy presses shall burst out with new wine”
    • “Presses” (Yāqāḇ) → The place where grapes are pressed to make wine.
    • “Burst out” (Yip̄rōṣū) → Means to overflow or break forth.
    • “New wine” (Tīrōš) → Represents fresh blessings and abundance.

Principle: Those who honor God with their wealth will experience overflowing provision.

Practical Application:

✔️ Give God the first and best portion of your income as an act of trust.
✔️ Trust that God will bless you abundantly when you put Him first.
✔️ Recognize that true wealth comes from God and should be used for His glory.
✔️ Generosity leads to increase—giving is not loss, but a path to greater provision.
