The End Is Near

The End Is Near

The thought of the end of the world looms heavily on the hearts of many these days. The uncertainty surrounding how it will come to pass leaves a lingering sense of dread. Will climate change, with its increasingly severe weather patterns and environmental degradation, spell the end for humanity? Could a global war, with the terrifying potential for nuclear devastation, bring about our final chapter? Or perhaps it will be a slow and miserable decline, marked by the erosion of societal, political, and economic stability?

These questions plague the minds of many, fostering anxiety and fear. The uncertainty is palpable, and the potential scenarios are daunting. This collective apprehension is understandable; the unknown can be a formidable source of fear. However, as Christians, we are called to view the end of the world through a different lens—a lens of hope, faith, and divine promise.

The return of Jesus Christ, which signifies the end of the world as we know it, is not a cause for alarm but a beacon of hope. The Scriptures reassure us of this promise: “Then I saw ‘a new heaven and a new earth,’ for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, and there was no longer any sea” (Revelation 21:1). The end heralds the beginning of a new, perfect existence, free from the trials and tribulations that currently weigh us down.

In this new world, all worries, anxieties, and concerns will be a thing of the past. We will no longer have to labor tirelessly for our salaries, striving to impress people who ultimately do not hold our eternal destiny in their hands. Chronic pain, diseases, and all forms of suffering will be no more. As it is written, “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away” (Revelation 21:4).

This divine promise invites us to shift our perspective. Rather than being consumed by fear of how the world will end, we can take comfort in the certainty of what lies beyond. The end of the world is not a moment to dread but an event to anticipate with hope and joy. It is the culmination of God’s redemptive plan for humanity, the fulfillment of His promises, and the dawn of an eternal kingdom where righteousness reigns.

In light of this, our daily struggles and anxieties can be seen in a different light. The pressures to succeed, to be recognized, and to overcome our personal battles are temporary. They are part of the “old order of things” that will pass away. What remains is our faith in Christ and the assurance of His return.

As Christians, we are called to be lights in a world overshadowed by fear and uncertainty. We can offer hope to those who are troubled by the thought of the world’s end. By sharing the gospel and the promises of God, we can help others see that the end is not something to fear but something to look forward to—a time when all things will be made new.

Let us hold fast to this hope and encourage one another as we await the glorious return of our Savior. The end is near, but for those who are in Christ, it is not an end at all—it is the beginning of an eternal, perfect existence with our Creator.
