Everybody has, more or less, mapped out a plan for their lives. They identify what they want to do by a certain age, what kind of person they want to become, where they want to live, and so on and so forth.
But if you’re a person who’s lived on this earth at least a few decades, you’d be familiar with that feeling of doubt when you look at a situation you’re in, and realize it is not at all what you had planned for your life.
This feeling can be discouraging. But as a Christian, I want to encourage you and say that you are exactly where you need to be.
When we face unexpected turns in life, it’s easy to question whether we’ve taken a wrong turn or if we’ve somehow missed God’s calling. However, the story of Joseph in the Bible serves as a powerful reminder that even in the midst of many bad things like betrayal, hardship, and uncertainty, God is still at work, orchestrating our steps for His purpose.
Joseph’s brothers threw him into a well and then sold him to merchants, a turn of events that surely was not what he imagined for his life. Yet, in Genesis 50:20, Joseph declares, “As for you, you meant evil against me, but God meant it for good, to bring it about that many people should be kept alive, as they are today.” Despite the betrayal and the detour from his expected path, Joseph recognized that God was ultimately in control, using even the darkest moments for His greater purpose.
As Christians, we must believe that our steps are ordered by the Lord. Proverbs 16:9 tells us, “The heart of man plans his way, but the Lord establishes his steps.” We may have our own plans and dreams, but ultimately, it is God who guides us and directs our paths according to His will.
Furthermore, in Deuteronomy 31:8, we are reminded, “It is the Lord who goes before you. He will be with you; he will not leave you or forsake you. Do not fear or be dismayed.” Even in the midst of uncertainty, we can take comfort in the knowledge that God goes ahead of us, making the path straight and leading us to where we need to be.
So, if you find yourself in a situation that you did not plan for, remember that God is with you, guiding you every step of the way. Trust in His plan, knowing that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28). Embrace the journey, knowing that you are exactly where you need to be, according to the perfect plan of our loving Father.
