Within the Christian journey, the call to obedience stands as a cornerstone of our faith, a guiding principle that often challenges our human nature. In the pages of Scripture, we encounter numerous examples illustrating the importance of obedience, none more poignant than the words spoken by the prophet Samuel to King Saul: “To obey is better than sacrifice, and to heed is better than the fat of rams.” (1 Samuel 15:22)

They come in the wake of Saul’s disobedience to God’s explicit command to utterly destroy the Amalekites and all their possessions.
